House of Lords + AI Faith and Civil Society Commission | Roundtable: AI, Human Values, and UK Opportunities
Our team recently joined Lord Russell Rook at the House of Lords within the British Parliament for a gathering of interfaith and technology leaders around the theme of AI, Human Values, and UK Opportunities. The cross-sector exchange, co-hosted by HumanConnections.AI and the AI Faith and Civil Society Commission, was rooted in curiosity, depth, and the human dimensions of AI. The dinner conversation explored a future initiative to help faith communities and civil society organizations wisely navigate the future of AI.
Jennifer Tacheff, Andrew McStay, and Ron Ivey shared insights from our HumanConnections.AI initiative including the white paper Ron co-authored with Jonathan Teubner:
👉 Social AI and Human Connections: Benefits, Risks, and Social Impact

Our team was grateful to discuss these risks and opportunities and hear insights from:
Professor Stephen Cave, Director of the Cambridge Leverhulme Centre for the Future of Intelligence, on AI capabilities, global perspectives on AI, and emerging trends in “de-computerization”, areas of life that people are choosing to take machines out of or protect from machines.
Graham Budd, former President of Arm and now Executive Director at The Faraday Institute for Science and Religion at Cambridge, on myth-busting the narrative of AI capabilities and the unique role of faith and civil society in that effort.
Rabbi Harris Bor shared insights from his book "Staying Human: A Theology for the Age of Artificial Intelligence," on how theology, science, and philosophy are deepening our understanding of humanity and informing wise responses to AI.
The roundtable explored questions such as:
How might faith-based institutions and civil society help individuals and communities in the UK discern how to use AI that aligns with their values and promotes flourishing?
How do we define “human values” in the context of AI and who gets to decide?
What value or principle should be non-negotiable in the development of AI?
What barriers prevent meaningful collaboration on values in AI between sectors today and how might we overcome them?
Special thanks to Austin Tiffany, Molly Conrad, and Lord Russell Rook’s team for co-hosting such an excellent event!
